State and Local Government Foreclosure Help and Assistance Programs

In addition to the Federal Government’s foreclosure assistance, a number of States offer local foreclosure prevention programs. Local governments are teaming up with banks and non-profits, to provide foreclosure assistance to local residents.

Typically these programs serve as incentivized supplements, or a prerequisite to obtaining Federal help. Most of the participants serve as a intermediary when dealing with Federal Government programs. A perfect example would be, a counselor that provides no-cost help. If the consumer is approved for a special financing, the counselor will be compensated with incentives from the program.
